Key Miles stones in the AI in Project Management
Initiative
The story I'm about to share exemplifies
how one persons vision and dream can ignite a
movement when
you are operating in a openminded and entrepreneurial organisation who welcomes
and support new ideas and individual initiatives. It illustrates the transformative power
when individuals come together, united by a shared vision and purpose. It's a
testament to the profound impact of personal initiative, motivation, and
collaboration within a team, fostered by an inclusive environment where each
team member contributes to the best of their abilities towards achieving a
common goal, and is recognized for their efforts. Furthermore, it underscores
the immense power of cross-border collaboration, gaining cultural insights, and
collectively growing in knowledge and understanding.
This journey began in 2019 with me reading an article on PMNet, Brainpower, discussing how
Machine Learning (ML) could transform decision-making in project management. This article was my starting
point for learning more about AI from a strategic and business perspective.
Fast forward to 2021, during the planning of the Passion for Projects Congress,
I proposed including AI in project management as part of PMI Sweden’s
agenda + me
writing a follow-up article a digital disruption and a pandemic later. Katarina Strömberg, then Director of Marketing and
now President of PMI Sweden endorsed the idea without any hesitation.
Three years later, 34 project managers from 25 countries and 27
PMI Chapters have joined our quest to assess the AI maturity in project
management across companies, countries, all over the globe. Together, we have spent
countless hours investigating AI's potential to augment project managers,
exploring their future roles, and understanding their perspectives on AI in
project management.
Over 2,300 project managers from 129 countries responded to our
global survey, providing invaluable insights into the current state and future
of AI in project management. You can see the link to the full report [here].
But we didn't stop there. We produced a detailed report on AI's
global use in daily project management, featuring survey results and 13
in-depth case studies. All our findings have been generously shared through
webinars, articles, and conference presentations. Link:
Although the team has done fantastic work, this project wouldn’t
have been possible without the support of the PMI and project management
community, AI experts, and academia, who contributed their invaluable knowledge
and experience.
For many, what we've achieved so far represents significant
success, However, we've taken it even one step further by making our
findings accessible to the entire project management community and corporate
sector by
creating a
presentation and training deck so that the project management community globally can start
learning together in training sessions and workshops. You can find the link to the
presentation and training deck here:
I'm very proud to have led this program and everything that our global team has accomplished together.
To the readers of our reports, articles, presentation deck, and
listeners to our webinars, please remember that this material was created out
of passion by a dedicated team in
the global PMI Chapter community, AI experts, and academia to support you on
your transformation journey and ensure that the project manager's role remains
crucial in future organizations.
To my team and all the people who have supported us, I extend my
heartfelt thank you. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
Passion is contagious, and when everyone is walking—or in our case, running—in
the same direction, a mission becomes unstoppable. And we did it!!!Keep on shining!
By this, I want to conclude that this
project (which grew into a program) is closed and extend my huge thank you from
me, PMI Sweden Chapter and Katarina and the entire team for your great support
and wish you all the best on your AI transformation journey!
